What to do the day after Christmas in Chattanooga

The presents have been unwrapped, the eggnog has been drunk and the Christmas goose eaten, and you have a house full of family. Now what? If you are like me and a house full of people gives you cabin fever, you need a plan.

Lucky for you, Chattanooga has a lot to offer in the way of plans.

If you have little kids, the Creative Discovery Museum is the place to run off a lot of pent up Christmas cookie energy. Open 10-5 the day after Christmas, this is a wonderland for children from toddlers through elementary school. From the giant water area featuring water cannons that propel boats and move simple machines to the netted climbing area featuring a two story slide, the entry area alone will wear your kids out. The rest of the museum is divided into different themed areas including art, music, science and a toddler only area. The special exhibit is always interesting and interactive, with the current one having the appropriate theme of winter.  Tickets are $12 per person for adults and children alike and an afternoon of fun is well worth the price of admission.

If you have older kids, Hamilton Skate Place is a great spot to look cool and show off some skill.  I have to say, it is very fun for adults as well. The family friendly, clean skating rink offers various hours during the week. Skate rental and entrance is $6 per person and you can usually skate as long as you care to. Check the website as hours change during the holidays.

The Tennessee Aquarium and Imax offer combo tickets and an entire day can be planned around both. Voted one of the country’s best aquariums, the Tennessee Aquarium offers something for everyone. Babies and toddlers love watching the fish, while older kids and adults find the animals interesting and, dare I say, educational. With hands on exhibits, a bird show, and petting areas, the Tennessee Aquarium with its two large buildings is worth seeing. Buy the Imax ticket combo and enjoy a unique visual experience with either a full length movie or a special documentary.   Show times are listed and tickes can be purchased in person or online .

Looking for something a little more interactive? Head out to one of Chattanooga’s bowling alleys. Smack talking and sibling rivalries can be indulged, all while knocking down pins. Two of  the best in Chattanooga are Holiday Bowl and Pinstrikes.  Holiday Bowl located on Brainerd Road old school bowling alley with plenty of lanes and a snack bar. Pinstrikes, is a combination bowling alley, arcade and laser tag. Both are fun places to spend an afternoon.

No matter what you choose, spending time during the holidays should be fun and enjoyable. Chattanooga Property Shop wishes you a very happy holiday season.
